A Beginner Blogger

Well, I've always wanted to know more about blogging, so I guess I'm going to learn by doing. I retired two years ago after 28 years of teaching elementary school; primarily 5th grade. I absolutely loved my profession. I love working with children because of their enthusiasm and honesty.
I worried what I would do with all the free time I suddenly had. I'd worked since I was 16 years old; making it strange to suddenly have all this free time. It took time to find new things to do,, but I've found a new passion: Quilting. This is a surprise to me because I never particularly enjoyed sewing. It was frustrating trying to fit patterns to bodies that never were the "average" size. Quilting is a whole other dimension, however.
As I went through college, I minored in art to fill up the electives side of my program. I've always loved art and thought it would be a good match for elementary education. Well, now that I'm quilting, all of the art skills I learned have truly blessed me in finding colors, working with patterns and texture, etc. I know of no other craft as fulfilling as seeing a quilt you have made with your own hands.
Between Memorial Day weekend and Christmas, I created and completed 7 quilts to give as gifts and well as the King size one I completed for my own bed.
Couldn't wait until after Christmas to get into some of the fabric I'd purchased for myself. The new project is an Amish Quilt composed of black background, sashings, border and jewel toned blocks. I'll post more after I get the pieces cut out.
